New York-based Single Family Office Invests In $35M Series C Round Of Blockchain Startup

New York-based startup Digital Asset – which is offering a smart-contract programming language – recently raised a $35M Series C funding round. Amongst the investors is the (also New York-based) single family office of former Blackstone executive Tony James.

Synchronizing business processes through blockchain solutions

Digital Asset’s main product is DAML: a programming language for multi-party transactions. Thereby, companies are enabled to “streamline operations and make value transfer efficient and secure”. The company was founded by Yuval Rooz (formerly roles at DRW Trading Group and Citadel), Shaul Kfir (software engineer from Tel Aviv who also was a visiting scientist at MIT) and Eric Saraniecki (experience in bitcoin trading, former role at DRW Trading). The firm is partnering with leading firms like Infosys, Google Cloud, accenture or Deloitte.

Family office investment in Digital Asset

The recent $35M funding round brought the total funding amount to $150M. The round was led by Jefferson River Capital, the single family office of Tony James, which is featured in our list of single family offices in New York. Other investors include the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and Coin Desk, a leading blockchain news site. ASX also choose the NY-based startup to replace the existing clearing house system with its solution in 2016. The New York-based Jefferson River Capital is an active investor within the startup sphere: In August, Jefferson River Capital led the $5.4M funding round of Alto, an innovative investment platform for alternative assets.
