Ray Dalio is an American hedge fund investor that amassed his wealth through Bridgewater Associates, which manages $150 billion whose clients include endowments, foundations, pensions, and sovereign wealth funds. As of January 2023, Dalio has an estimated net worth of $19.1bn putting him the 85th richest person in the world according to Forbes. Dalio manages wealth through Bridgewater and Dalio Family Office
Ray graduated from Harvard in 1973 and within two years founded Bridgewater in his two-bed New York City apartment. Bridgewater is currently one of the world’s leading investment firms, in 2013 it was ranked as the top hedge fund in the world. In 2022, Dalio transferred his majority stake in Bridgewater to the board and stepped down as one of the three critical co-chief investment managers as he focuses on his family office. Despite this, Dalio still retains a key role in Bridgewater and remains a chief investment officer mentor and his place on the board. The Dalio Family Office supports Barbara, Ray, and their family through investments and ventures as well as their Dalio Philanthropies which supports OceanX, Dalio Education, and the Beijing Dalio Foundation. The Family Office manages assets of over $15 billion and is operated by Bruce Zimmerman. In 2020, the Dalio Family Office established an office in Singapore and gave a $25 million grant to Singapore’s Wealth Management Institute to train policymakers and young investment professionals. The Family Office portfolio consists of investments in private equity, venture capital, real estate, and natural resources. Dalio has committed to the Giving Pledge and uses his Dalio Foundation to support education, health care, and environmental causes.
