Where does the fortune of Larry Page come from?

Lawrence Edward Page is an American computer scientist and Internet entrepreneur. He is best known as one of the co-founders of Google, along with Sergey Brin. Influenced by the technological environment at home during his childhood and by his father, who had a PhD in computer science, Larry Page completed his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering at the University of Michigan. He went on to earn a Master of Science in computer science at Stanford. Google’s massive success has made Larry one of the richest people in the world.

How did Page’s company Google develop?

During the theme search process for his PhD dissertation at Stanford, which he suspended and still didn’t finish until today, Larry got engaged with mathematical properties of the “World Wide Web” and the understanding of its link structure. This engagement later led to the search engine development and to the founding of Google (first named “Googol”) in 1998 together with Sergey Brin, a former research partner of Page. Today Google is the most used search engine in the World Wide Web and offers lots of other services like maps, translation, and many more. Alphabet, the mother company of Google was formed in 2015.

Update 2024: Today, Google generates more than $300 billion in revenue (mostly from advertising) and employs nearly 220,000 people.

Is there a Larry Page family office?

It’s not known if there is a specific family office linked to Larry Page, but given Larry’s appearance as a frequent venture capital investor, there must be some sort of organization through which at least some of his investments are made. Page is particularly fond of investing in innovative companies working in unusual fields such as space exploration and flying cars.

How does the Page family office invest?

As mentioned above, Larry does not channel all of his investments through a specific single family office, but rather makes his own venture capital investments. In 2006, for example, he funded Tesla in a Series C financing round. Since 2016, he has been the lead investor in Kitty Hawk, a company dedicated to the development of electric air transport vehicles. Page is also a philanthropist, investing through his Carl Victor Page Memorial Foundation. The foundation raises funds for a variety of social issues including education, medicine, poverty and family issues.
