These 3 European Billionaire Family Offices Invest in Private Equity

In Europe’s private equity landscape, family offices are playing an increasing role. In this article, we analyzed our list of 400 European family offices with private equity focus. In the following, we are introducing you to three exciting single family offices of billionaires that invest in PE.

1. Financiere Agache (Arnault family office, France)

The net worth of Bernard Arnault is estimated at over €150BN, making him one of the wealthiest people on the world. Arnault’s wealth is based on luxury conglomerate LVMH. Also through various family investment vehicles, Arnault is an active investor. One important vehicle of Arnault for private equity investments is Financière Agache. The firm has constrolling shares in LVMH and Christian Dior and also pursuits financial investments. One major transaction of Financiere Agache was the acquisition of shoe firm BIRKENSTOCK, which was acquired in a joint transaction with L Catterton. L Catterton is another private equity investment arm of Arnault, launched through a partnership in 2016.

2. Interogo Holding (Ingvar Kamprad, Sweden)

Swedish billionaire and founder of the world renowned furniture chain manages his non-IKEA related investment activities through the Interogo Holding, which can be seen as Kamprad family office. The firm is owned by the Interogo Foundation, which belongs to Kamprad and is based in Liechtenstein. Interogo is an active investor in private equity funds, secondaries and also co-investments. The Nordic private equity investments of the Kamprad family office are managed by Nalka Invest. Assets under management in the private equity sector exceed €4BN. Nalka invested in firms like Certego, Uniwater or Prototal. The firm pursues a mid-cap investment strategy, with focus on firms with an established market position in the Nordic region.

3. Téthys Invest (Bettencourt Meyers, France)

Françoise Bettencourt Meyers is the heir of the L’Oreal fortune and – as of 2022 – the wealthiest women on earth. The holding company of the family is called Téthys. Dedicated private equity investments are pursued by Téthys Invest. Both firms are headquartered in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Besides direct investments, the family office also pursues fund investments. For example, the medical technology fund Lauxera Growth I can count on the Bettencourt-Meyers family office as major investor. The family office is a major player in the French private equity landscape.
