We created this article as part of our research process for our European single-family office database. Here, we are investigating the share of Dutch single-family offices investing in private equity opportunities.
Based on our database of the largest single family offices in Europe, we have conducted an analysis of the family office landscape in the Netherlands. In this article, we focus on the private equity asset class and present some of the findings from our work. In total, 30 single family offices in Netherlands have a Private Equity Focus. This represents a share of 76%. This makes investments in private companies the most popular asset class among Dutch family offices. Private Equity (PE) investments in the Netherlands have been on a steady rise over the years, reflecting the robustness of the Dutch economy and its attractiveness as an investment destination. Private Equity refers to a type of investment made into private companies or conducted as buyouts of public companies that result in their delisting from public stock exchanges. This form of investment comes primarily from institutional investors and accredited individuals who can dedicate substantial sums for extended periods.
In the following, we are highlighting one interesting Dutch single family office investing in private equity.
Ramphastos Investments: Dutch single family office investing in private equity
Most family offices in the Netherlands that focus on private equity are based in Amsterdam. One of these family offices is Ramphastos Investments, which was founded in 1994 by Marcel Boekhoorn. The investment company now has holdings in more than 30 companies with a combined turnover of more than EUR 5 billion. The investment focus of the family office is on growth companies, whereby the range of sectors is very broad. Ramphastos is not only active as Private Equity investor but is also financing startups as a Venture Capital partner.
