Study: 64% of single family offices in France are private equity investors

We created this article as part of our research process for our European single-family office database. Here, we are investigating the share of French single-family offices investing in private equity opportunities.

In total, 38 single-family offices in France have a Private Equity Focus. This represents a share of 64%. Private Equity (PE) investments in France have been a significant driving force in the country’s economy, providing substantial financial resources to businesses at different life cycle stages. This type of investment involves purchasing shares in private companies that are not listed on a public exchange or buying out public companies with the intention to make them private. The French PE market is characterized by high professionalism and sophistication. It is regulated by Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), ensuring transparency and protection for investors. The regulatory environment, coupled with strong economic fundamentals, makes France an attractive destination for Private Equity investments of single family offices.

In the following, we are highlighting one interesting French single family office investing in private equity.

DENTRESSANGLE: French single family office investing in private equity

The family office and holding company of Norbert, Pierre-Herine and Marine Dentressangle is named after the family. The DENTRESSANGLE family office is based on the sale of the family company to XPO Logistics in 2015. The family office is an active investor, with having over €1.7BN investments since the inception oft he family office. Besides Paris, DENTRESSANGLE has also offices in Lyon, Munich and Luxembourg. Private equity investments are pursued through a dedicated “DENTRESSANGLE Capital” platform. The 11 portfolio companies are employing more than 23,000 people and have €3BN in cumulated revenues. The family offices invests between €30-300M in growth companies and aims to be the majority or principal shareholder. Portfolio companies include coverguard (protectiv equipment), Kiloutou (rental) and Acteon (medtech). Through the “DENTRESSANGLE Global Opportunities” platform, the family office is also investing in private equity or private debt funds.
