Lego single family office invests in €130M funding round of recycling firm

The Merseburg-based recycling firm APK announced a new €130M funding round to build two new recycling plants. Amongst the investors is the single family office of the Kristiansen family, which stands behind toy maker LEGO.

The German recycling firm APK invented a so-called “Newcycling” procedure, which allows to recycle multilayer foils to high quality products. To build two new plants, the firm requires additional capital, which was contributed in the now announced funding round. Amongst the investors is German venture capital fund MIG Capital, as well as chemical company LyondellBasell, as well as KIRKBI. KIRKBI is the single family office of the Kristiansen family, which stands behind the LEGO company. The net worth of Kirk Kristiansen is estimated at €7.9BN. The Danish KIRKBI single family office invests in various verticals, such as startups, equity and renewables.
