In this list we combine two unique assets: our global database with more than 1,600 global single family offices and our expertise in building web crawlers and analysis tool. In our Hotel Investor Single Family Office list we checked, if the websites of the family offices from our database cover hotel-related keywords, such as „hotels“ or „hospitality“. The list contains all the family offices we identified that contain at least one relevant keyword mention

Keyword Crawler Methodology

Searching our entire database manually for hotel keywords would be impossible due to its size. Therefore, we have developed a Python-based search-tool that makes our work easier. The process behind it is a three-step procedure.

  1. Similar to a Google crawler, our tool searches each family office website from our database for subpages.
  2. We then check each of the previously identified subpages to see whether they contain hotel keywords. The number of keywords is counted and compared to the total number of words on the page. This allows us to calculate various statistics (see below) and highlight the most important subpages.
  3. Comparing the results allows us to create a specific list for your area of interest.

Results of the keyword analysis: data points included in the list

Like our regular family office list, the offered list contains all the usual data, such as, detailed investment focus information, contact details, executives and background information. In addition, the list contains the results of our keyword-analysis, namely:

  • total_frequency (e.g.: 18) – total counted occurrences of keywords on family office website
  • average_keyword_rate (e.g. 0.3) – average rate of keyword occurrences per subpage in relation with total number of words
  • most_common_keyword (e.g. „hotels“) – keyword that was counted the most often on family office website
  • most_common_keyword_frequency (e.g. 14) – number of times the most common keyword was counted
  • sub_url_highest_rate (e.g. https://familyofficeabc.de/hotel) – sub url with the highest number of found keywords
  • highest_rate (e.g. 0.3) – highest keyword rate per subpage
  • frequency_per_keyword: {‘hotels’: 50, ‘hotel’: 5213, ‘hospitality’: 10} – dictionary of number of keyword occurrences per keyword

Analyzed keywords and crawler settings

Our crawler analyzed the family office websites for the following keywords: “hotels”, “hotel”, “hospitality”.

We cover hotel-related search terms in the most important languages of the countries included in our database. Each website was crawled by our Python-tool for at least 60 seconds.

Pros and cons of our keyword-based approach

Our list Is the perfect starting point for getting in touch with single family offices in the hotel investment space. With the help of our analysis tool, we were able to identify the most relevant family offices in the hotel investment sector. However, our approach has two potential sources of error. First, our keyword crawler only works if the targeted keywords are mentioned on the website. If family offices do not publish their investments transparently, our keyword crawler will not find any mentions. Secondly, we cannot interpret the context of the keyword occurrence, false positives are possible. For example, if a family office writes an article about why they don’t invest in hotels, it would still show up in the list. Finally, we cannot generate results if the website is effectively blocking our crawler (which is rarely the case).

In summary, we are convinced that our list offers an excellent starting point for identifying the most relevant hotel investing family offices.
