The American investor and hedge fund manager

Ray Dalio is one of the world’s most famous hedge fund managers and investors. He started investing at the age of 12, using tips from the golfers he caddied for. In 1975, two years after graduating from Harvard Business School, he founded Bridgewater Associates. 30 years later, Bridgewater Associates has become the world’s largest hedge fund. Today, Bridgewater serves institutional clients including pension funds, endowments, foundations, central banks, and governments. It manages $126 billion on behalf of its clients. Ray Dalio himself is no longer in control of the firm. He stepped down as CEO in 2017 and as CIO in 2022. Nevertheless, he has amassed a huge fortune of around $15 billion throughout his career.

The investment focus of the Dalio Family OfficeT

The Dalio Family Office (DFO) is headquartered in Westport, Connecticut, with offices in New York City, Singapore and Abu Dhabi. From its various locations, it manages Barbara and Ray Dalio and their family businesses and investments. The Dalio Family Office is very secretive about its strategy and investments. What is known is that it invests in private equity, venture capital, real estate and credit. More is known of the people who are active in de family office. Janine Racanelli acts as the CEO, while Mark Baumgartner acted as it CIO after he left the company in August of 2024. In addition to his investments, Dalio has given away more than $1 billion to philanthropic causes. These mainly support public education and microfinance. His philanthropic activities are managed through Dalio Philanthropies and include OceanX, Dalio Education, the Beijing Dalio Foundation and Endless.
