Eric Schmidt: Manager, security adviser & investor

Eric Schmidt is best known for his position as CEO of Google from 2001 to 2011 and as Executive Chairman of Google and Alphabet from 2011 to 2017. Before Google, he held various executive positions at Novell, Xerox, and Sun Microsystems. After becoming CEO, Schmidt became a member of the Department of Defense Advisory Board and co-chaired the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence. His work gave him a reputation as an influential policy advisor.  In fact his work has made Schmidt one of America’s richest billionaires. As of October 2024, he is estimated to be worth $22.9 billion. This makes him one of the 100 richest people in the world.

Hillspire: The Eric Schmidt Family Office

He is usually very secretive about his business activities, especially when it comes to his family office. What is known is that Hillspire was founded in 2006 by Eric Schmidt and his then-wife. It is based in California and invests in publicly traded securities, real estate, private equity, and other alternative assets. Well-known investments of the Eric Schmidt Family Office include the acquisition of a 20% stake in the global investment and technology firm D.E. Shaw Group. Furthermore, they invested in the financial venture Arta Finance, founded by a former Google employee. Much has been made of his $100 million investment in startup accelerator Steel Perlot, which appears to be struggling financially. Nevertheless, Hillspire continues to invest in startups. In 2024 alone, they invested in Sion Power, Our Worlds, and Tierra Biosciences.
