Steve Cohen: Hedge Fund investor & Philanthropist

Steve Cohen began his career on Wall Street in 1978 at Gruntal & Co. He was very successful from the start, allowing him to set up his own hedge fund, SAC Capital, in 1992. He later had to close the firm in 2013 after it was found guilty of insider trading and had to pay a $1.8 billion fine. As a result, Cohen founded Point72 Asset Management, a hedge fund that became the successor to SAC Capital. Today, Point72 Asset Management has $35 billion under management. In addition to his business activities, Cohen has donated much of his wealth to causes related to veterans and children’s health. Cohen is also set to buy the New York Mets baseball team in 2020.

As mentioned above is a successful investor this also applies to the Steve Cohen Family Office. Cohen Private Ventures is based in Stamford. Regarding its investments, they are quite secretive, and not much is known about their activities. Nevertheless, it can be said that the family office’s focus lies on direct private investments,  growth equity, and venture capital. Furthermore, it invests in real estate, structured securities, and credit investments. Exemplary investment was Collectors Universe a company that provides third-party authentication and grading for collectibles. There were also investments in DocAsap and the Republic Bank. Next to his business activities, Steve Cohen runs the Steve and Alexandra Cohen Foundation, which was founded in the early 2000s. Through the foundation, they support different initiatives and projects like the Stamford Hospital.
