The Benetton family: An Italian Fashion Dynasty
The company, founded by four siblings named Luciano, Giuliana, Gilberto, and Carlo, transformed one simple idea into a fashion empire. The journey began after their father died when the then-14-year-old Luciano went to work in a clothes shop in Treviso, Italy. At the time, his sister Giuliana was knitting a bright yellow jumper which got attention from Luciano’s colleagues. This was the beginning of their fashion empire. Benetton quickly became famous for its bright and colorful sweaters. Their first international store opened in Paris in 1969. They later expanded to New York City in 1980.
