The heir of a trade and service conglomerate
Antonia Ax:son Johnson is the fourth generation to run the family business, the Axel Johnson Group. The company was founded in 1873 by her great-grandfather. From 1982 to 2015, Ax:son Johnson was Chairman of the Board of Axel Johnson. Her daughter Caroline Berg took over the company and has managed it since then. The group itself consists of four different, legally and financially independent groups. Axel Johnson AB, the property company AxFast, the holding company Altocumulus and the US company Axel Johnson Inc. Axel Johnson is the owner of all of them. All together the company is active in energy, real estate, industrial products and grocery store chains. Thanks to her business success, Ax:son and her family have amassed a fortune of $10 billion, making her one of Sweden’s richest people.
The investment focus of AltoCumulus, the Ax:son Johnson family office
The family office of the Ax:son Johnson family is integrated into the Axel Johnson Group and is called AltoCumulus. The asset management company invests in equities, private equity and fixed income. In 2024, the company had 18 employees and invested its assets mainly in global markets (85%) and fixed income (15%). In addition to their investment activities, the Ax:son Johnson family is also an active donor to charitable causes. Their philanthropic arm is managed by the Axfoundation, an independent, non-profit organisation. It focuses on work that promotes a more environmentally and socially sustainable community.
