Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has agreed to sell a strategic minority stake in Liverpool F.C. to 1892 Holdings, a consortium led and managed by Amit Bhatia. The consortium combines investments from Amit Bhatia and the Mittal Family Trusts, K5 Sports (a K5 Global fund with Jeff Bezos as principal investor), and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin. FSG retains majority ownership and full operational control of the club. According to the announcement, the consortium partners will work with FSG and the club’s leadership team to evaluate opportunities that support Liverpool’s ambitions on and off the pitch. Corestone Capital Advisors introduced and facilitated the parties, Allen Overy Shearman Sterling advised FSG and the club, Latham & Watkins advised 1892 Holdings, and Clifford Chance acted as legal counsel to EE Capital. Completion of the transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

About EE Capital: The Saverin family office

EE Capital is the family office of Eduardo Saverin and his wife Elaine Saverin. Eduardo Saverin co-founded Facebook in 2004 together with Mark Zuckerberg and fellow Harvard students, and his stake in the company, today Meta Platforms, remains the foundation of the family’s wealth. Saverin has been based in Singapore since 2009 and is one of the world’s wealthiest tech entrepreneurs. Beyond the family office, he co-founded the global venture capital firm B Capital in 2015, where he serves as Co-CEO. Saverin has a long track record of personal startup investments, including the Mumbai-based online retailer Hopscotch, which he backed with 13 million US dollars in 2016 as one of his early direct investments in India. The Liverpool transaction marks a rare move by the family office into professional sports.
