The Adar Poonawalla Family Office invested ₹700 crore (about $73 million) in Inox Clean Energy, the renewable-energy arm of India’s INOXGFL Group, in a deal announced in early July 2026. The investment was made through Rising Sun Holdings, the Poonawalla family’s holding company, and valued Inox Clean at ₹70,000 crore. It followed roughly ₹800 crore that the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) had committed in earlier rounds, alongside other backers such as RJ Corp and Authum Investments. Inox Clean Energy describes itself as an integrated renewable-energy platform spanning independent power production and solar manufacturing, and says it has completed ten acquisitions in ten months while targeting 15 gigawatts of renewable capacity by the 2028 financial year. The company said the fresh capital would strengthen its balance sheet and support new projects, added manufacturing capacity, and further acquisitions in India and overseas.
About the Poonawalla family office: The Serum Institute
The Adar Poonawalla Family Office manages the wealth of Adar Poonawalla, chief executive of the Serum Institute of India, and invests mainly through Rising Sun Holdings, the investment holding company of the Cyrus Poonawalla Group, which was incorporated in 1993 and in which Adar Poonawalla holds a majority stake. The family’s fortune stems from the Serum Institute, founded by his father Cyrus Poonawalla in 1966 and now the world’s largest vaccine maker by doses produced, supplying immunizations to around 170 countries. Over the past decade the family has diversified well beyond vaccines. Its most prominent move was the 2021 takeover of Magma Fincorp, since rebranded as the listed lender Poonawalla Fincorp, and it has also backed the pharmacy chain Wellness Forever, taken a stake in the auction house AstaGuru, invested in Bollywood’s Dharma Productions, and become a co-owner of the IPL cricket franchise Rajasthan Royals, on top of extensive real estate holdings. The family’s wealth has been estimated at roughly $15 billion, which makes it, according to familyofficehub.io one of the largest family offices in India.
