Pontegadea, the family office of Spanish billionaire Amancio Ortega, has entered the UK infrastructure market with a strategic acquisition: a 49% stake in PD Ports. The investment comes through a deal with Brookfield Asset Management, which retains a majority share and will continue to collaborate closely with Pontegadea to grow the business. PD Ports, a major UK logistics and ports operator, boasts operations across 11 locations nationwide, including key sites in Teesport, Hartlepool, and Felixstowe. It plays a vital role in the UK supply chain, contributing £1.4 billion annually to the Teesside economy and supporting 22,000 jobs. CEO Frans Calje hailed the investment as “a bold new chapter,” underscoring Pontegadea’s endorsement of PD Ports’ long-term vision and national significance.
