The Danish billionaire amassed his fortune through ownership of a medical device company, Coloplast a family company which his father Aage and mother Joanne both previously worked for. Niels is the largest shareholder with 20.7% ownership and has an estimated net worth of $7bn. Niels keeps a private family life and is married with one daughter, living in the Danish town Humlebaek. In this article, we investigate if Niels Louis-Hansen owns a Scandinavian family office.
No Louis-Hansen family office, but different holdings
Niels mainly operates through Coloplast which has developed a world-renowned reputation and is in the top 30 leading medical companies worldwide. In 2015, the company won the Red Dot Design award through its ‘Compact Eve’ catheter. There is no Louis-Hansen family office but Niels has numerous holdings in the medical device industry. Niels has a large-scale investment in fellow Danish medical device company Ambu, with a 15.6% ownership. The Dane has also invested in biotech company Virgates through his investment vehicle, N.P. Louis-Hansen ApS. In 2019, Niels was part of numerous investors who raised $2.8m for Nanovi which specializes in cancer treatment.
In honor of his late parents, Niels establish the Aage and Johanne Louis-Hansen foundation in 1982. Niels is the chairman of the foundation which is a commercial fund that distributes for non-profit purposes. The foundation supports a wide range of projects such as arts & culture, research & education, and social & charitable initiatives. The foundation encourages applications through its online portal and applicants must comply with their stringent application process to ensure all donations are properly distributed.
