What’s the largest Dutch family office by AUM?

How does the Carvalho-Heineken family invest?

At the center of the family’s financial influence is L’Arche Green N.V., a private investment vehicle based in Amsterdam. With estimated assets under management exceeding €10 billion, it is the largest Dutch family office by a wide margin. L’Arche Green is predominantly owned by the Heineken family, who hold 88.98 percent, while the remaining 11.02 percent belongs to the Hoyer family.

This holding company plays a pivotal role in the Heineken corporate structure. L’Arche Green N.V. owns a controlling 53.171 percent of Heineken Holding N.V., which itself holds 50.005 percent of Heineken N.V. Through this multi-tiered setup, the Carvalho-Heineken family exercises long-term strategic control over one of the world’s most iconic brewers. Despite being publicly listed, Heineken N.V. remains firmly under family influence thanks to this sophisticated governance model.

We note that the Amsterdam-based L’Arche Green is a low-profile investment vehicle. There might be a business relationship between the Carvalho-Heineken family office and London-based multi family office Capgen Partners, where Michel de Carvalho serves as chairman.

Alternative candidates for the Dutch family office ranking by AUM

In the scope of the research for this article, our experienced familyofficehub.io also evaluated other candidates for the largest Dutch family office ranking. For instance, the Goldschmeding family, co-owners of staffing firm Randstad, are amongst the country’s wealthiest citizens. However, there is no known family office. Also, for crypto billionaire Jean-Louis van der Velde or tech entrepreneur Arnout Schuijff (Adyen) there is no known family investment vehicle. The Eindhoven-based van der Leegte family has concentrated its wealth in the company VDL Groep, which acts as an industrial holding rather than as a family office. Another major single-family office in the Netherlands is one of the Pon family. However, it manages way less capital, and hence we decided to stick with the Carvalho-Heineken family office in our ranking of the largest Dutch family investment vehicle.
