Bolt Ventures, the personal investment firm of David Blitzer, joined a consortium to acquire Red Bull KTM Tech3, one of MotoGP’s longest-tenured racing teams, in a deal announced January 30, 2026. The investor group is led by IKON Capital, founded by Markus Gloël and Damien O’Donohoe, and includes Main Street Advisors, TRAIL SLAM and Pierre Gasly, ALK Capital, Barry English, Tom Stafford, Charles de Carvalho, and Richard Cook. The transaction, reportedly valued at approximately $50 million, positions the acquisition as both a capital infusion and operational upgrade aimed at elevating Tech3’s on-track competitiveness while building scalable commercial infrastructure around the team. The new ownership group installed Guenther Steiner, longtime Formula 1 team principal and motorsport executive, as CEO to professionalize Tech3’s commercial operations, strengthen brand development, expand fan engagement, and improve sponsor activation. The investors framed the deal as capitalizing on broader momentum in MotoGP following Liberty Media’s acquisition of the championship in 2025, with stated ambitions to expand the sport’s footprint in North America and Asia beyond its traditionally European-heavy fan base. According to Blitzer, the investment reflects confidence that MotoGP is positioned for growth comparable to the meteoric rise Formula 1 has experienced in recent years.
About Bolt Ventures: The David Blitzer family office
Bolt Ventures is the personal investment vehicle of David Blitzer, a senior managing director at Blackstone and one of global sports’ most prolific investors. Blitzer holds the distinction of being the first individual to own equity stakes in all five major North American professional sports leagues simultaneously—a portfolio that includes ownership positions in the Philadelphia 76ers (NBA), New Jersey Devils (NHL), Crystal Palace FC (English Premier League), Cleveland Guardians (MLB), and Real Salt Lake (MLS). Beyond team ownership, Blitzer has invested in several sports-related ventures including Fanatics, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), and various esports organizations. His investment philosophy emphasizes long-term value creation in sports franchises, media rights, and fan engagement platforms, often targeting leagues and properties poised for international expansion and digital transformation. Blitzer joined Blackstone in 1991 and has spent more than three decades at the firm, where he focuses on tactical opportunities and special situations investing, though his sports investments through Bolt Ventures are distinct from Blackstone’s institutional activities. The Tech3 MotoGP investment marks Blitzer’s first entry into motorcycle racing ownership and reflects his broader strategy of identifying undervalued premium sports assets in high-growth global leagues.
