Willett Advisors, the family office of Michael Bloomberg, took part in Cellares‘ Series D financing, which the cell-therapy manufacturer first announced at $257 million in January 2026 and later expanded to $327 million in June 2026 following a $50 million investment from Prime Radiant Partners. The core round was co-led by BlackRock and Eclipse, with new investors including T. Rowe Price, Baillie Gifford, the Duquesne Family Office, ARK Invest, Intuitive Ventures, EDBI, and Gates Frontier, and continued participation from existing backers including Willett Advisors, DC Global Ventures, and DFJ Growth. Cellares, headquartered in South San Francisco, calls itself the first Integrated Development and Manufacturing Organization and builds heavily automated “Smart Factories” for producing cell therapies such as CAR-T treatments, using its Cell Shuttle and Cell Q platforms. The company says the funding, which pushed its total raised past $600 million, will carry it through the start of commercial-scale operations, an expansion into Leiden in the Netherlands, and a planned initial public offering in 2027.
About Willett Advisors: The Michael Bloomberg family office
Willett Advisors is the New York-based firm that manages the personal and philanthropic investment assets of Michael Bloomberg, the founder of Bloomberg L.P. and former mayor of New York. Bloomberg established it in 2010, moving roughly $5 billion out of the Quadrangle Group to run his money in-house, and it also invests on behalf of Bloomberg Philanthropies. Willett invests across public markets, hedge funds, private equity and credit, real assets, and direct deals, and keeps a famously low public profile. Positions like the one in Cellares sit within a long-term, low-turnover approach that also underwrites Bloomberg’s giving in areas such as public health, climate, education, and the arts.
