Profluent Bio Inc., a biotechnology startup using frontier AI to design novel proteins, has raised $106 million in a Series B round co-led by Bezos Expeditions and Altimeter Capital. Other participants included Spark Capital, Insight Partners, and Air Street Capital. The new capital brings Profluent’s total funding to $150 million. Based in California, Profluent is developing generative AI models that allow scientists to create DNA sequences for custom proteins using natural language prompts. Its proprietary dataset, “Protein Atlas,” includes over 115 billion protein sequences, enabling the company to apply AI scaling laws to molecular design. The company’s open-source genome editor, OpenCRISPR-1, has garnered interest from researchers and pharmaceutical firms. With the new funding, Profluent plans to expand its platform’s capabilities across areas such as therapeutics, biomanufacturing, and agriculture.
