The Icon League, a Berlin-based five-a-side football competition, has secured €15 million in Series A financing led by HV Capital. Existing investors including Jürgen Klopp’s family office K4 Beteiligungsgesellschaft, Thomas Hagedorn, and Luigi Berlusconi’s H14 also participated in the round. Former HV Capital partner David Fischer was appointed group CEO as part of the investment. The company plans to use the capital to expand operations and grow across Europe.
The Icon League was launched in 2024 by footballer Toni Kroos and entrepreneur Elias Nerlich. The competition operates a fourteen-team tournament using a US-style franchise model in which players are selected centrally and teams assemble rosters during defined transfer windows. Individual franchises have the ability to market themselves and their athletes independently. Revenue for the league is generated through ticketing, sponsorships, media rights, and merchandise sales. The top four playoff teams share €500,000 in prize money, with the champion receiving €300,000.
The Berlusconi and Klopp family offices
K4 Beteiligungsgesellschaft, the family office of former football coach Jürgen Klopp, has positioned itself as an active venture investor across sports and wellness sectors, with Marc Klopp playing a key operational role. The office has backed ventures including the health food brand Wholey and the grassroots football digitization platform Prematch and is also actively involved in Berlin-based Padel club Padel FC. H14, the Italian family office of siblings Luigi, Barbara, and Eleonora Berlusconi, operates as a diversified investment platform managing over €400 million in assets across venture capital, growth capital, private equity, hedge funds, and capital markets. H14 maintains a strong technology focus and has invested in European companies including FlixMobility, Tradeshift, Wefox, ContentSquare, Sennder, and Deliveroo. Both family offices join HV Capital in backing Icon League’s growth across Europe, and will contribute insider knowledge from the European football industry. The Berlusconi family were previous owners of AC Milano, and Jürgen Klopp belongs to the most renowned European football coaches with an extensive network.
