Alex Rodriguez single family office invests in Professional Fighters League's $30M round

Alex Rodriguez is a former baseball star that was 14 times MLB all star with the New York Yankees. Now, Rodriguez invested through his U.S. family office A-Rod Corp in martial arts league Professional Fighters League (PFL) at a $500M valuation.

$30M investment in PFL

PFL is a martial arts fighting leage that has, according to its website, 600 million fans with distribution in more than 160 countries. The $30M investment comes at a $500M valuation. Other owners of PFL include Mark Lerner, Ray Lewis, Ares Capital and Elysian Park Ventures. In the 2021 season, the PFL league covered six weight classes and a 155-pound women’s class. Fighters can earn points through wins, based on which the ranking is established. Viewers of the fight are presented sophisticated statistics. PFL is led by co-founder Donn Davis and CEO Peter Murray.

Family Office as sports investor

The martial arts fighting league PFL was not the first sports investment for Rodriguez. In 2021, he aquired a stake in NBA team Minnesota Timberwolves. In his career, Rodriguez earned more than $450M. After retiring in 2016, he focuses on investments through his family office A-Rod Corp. A-Rod Corp invests in different verticals. Besides the private equity and venture capital investments, Rodriguez also invests actively in real estate. His investing career started with the purchase of a duplex apartment in 1995.
