Li Ka-shing: business tycoon, investor and philanthropist

Li Ka-shing earned the nickname Superman thanks to his business success. Li founded his first company, Cheung Kong Plastics, in 1950. The company manufactured plastic products and became the largest supplier of plastic flowers in Asia. Li Ka-shing became rich when he sold the company in 1958. With his new-found wealth, Li expanded his business activities into property, retail, asset trading and technology. The result is the conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings and CK Asset Holdings. Today, the holding company operates in more than 50 countries and employs more than 300,000 people. Li retired in 2018 but remains a senior advisor, while his son Victor runs the $100 billion company.

Horizons Ventures and its latest investments

The $35 billion fortune of Li is partly managed by the Li Ka-shing family office Horizons Ventures. In fact since its foundation in 1999 the family office has made over 330 investments. It focuses mainly on venture capital investments in the Asia-Pacific region. It is also interested in companies that have a disruptive and technology-driven business model. In particular, sectors such as media, telecommunications, internet, fintech and healthcare are major investment focuses. Latest investments of Horizons Ventures Limited went into companies such as CellVoyant, Kimia, Chemify or BioLoomics.

Recently, Victor Li announced that the Ka-shing family will establish a family office in Hong Kong, which will be managed by trusted colleagues and family members. The Ka-shing family will be the first wealthy Hong Kong family to establish a personal family office in their hometown.
